Founded in 2002 by Dr. Julia Overstreet, Rainier Medical Education Programs offers training to advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and licensed nursing assistants. Many of the training programs award Nursing Continuing Education Credits.
A member of WOCN (Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Association), Dr. Julia Overstreet is a renowned Podiatric Physician & Surgeon as well as an experienced Wound Care Specialist. She has been helping patients in Seattle area for 25 years. Nurses are the first line providers in foot care and wound care. Dr. Overstreet’s passion is providing all of the training and skills they need to help their wonderful patients. That was her motivation in developing the programs at Rainier Medical.
Beginning operations in the year 1995, Rainier Medical offers Hands-on, video and classroom programs. In the Hands-on workshop, Dr. Overstreet herself demonstrates the uses and applications of instruments in foot and nail care. Admitting only a limited number of students at the time, the nurses are able to learn the skills they need for routine nail and callus treatment. They spend an entire day and treat approximately 35 patients who need toenail and callus care. The nurses leave with professional skills and a high level of confidence. This allows them to return home to clinics or private practice with the ability to safely provide this needed care.
